The Denník N report highlights the efforts to preserve and commemorate the forgotten Jewish history in Levoča. The title of the article itself draws attention to the tragic historical fact that, out of an originally strong community of 718 people, only two ultimately remained.

ogether, we remembered the names and fates of those who were never meant to be forgotten. Watch the report from the “Unforgotten Neighbours” memorial event, where we honoured the memory of Levoča’s Holocaust victims.
The event, which annually connects people across Slovakia, brought an important moment of reflection to our town as well. Through the collective reading of names and the lighting of candles, we remembered our former Jewish neighbours – people who once formed an inseparable part of life in Levoča. Their stories serve as a reminder that we must pass on to future generations.

Podcast – limka rozhovory
In an episode of the LIMKA rozhovory podcast, we had the opportunity to discuss the work of our civic association, Mekomot Slovakia. We talked about our long-term efforts to restore the Jewish cemetery in Levoča. We do not perceive the cemetery merely as a “pile of stones”, but above all as a memorial site for specific people and their stories. THE RARE LEVOČA TORAH ARK CURTAIN RETURNS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 80 YEARS
The September issue of the Levoča Information Monthly (LIMKA) featured an extensive article about the Kehila: Jewish Levoča exhibition, published ahead of its official opening. The text introduces readers in detail to the core idea of our project – restoring the faces and names of the lost Jewish community that was an integral part of the town’s history for centuries.

HISTORY OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN LEVOČA – 2025
The December issue of the Levoča Information Magazine (LIM) featured an article dedicated to the history of the Jewish religious community in Levoča. Authored by Hiro Richter, chairman of the civic association Mekomot Slovakia, the text outlines the development of the local community, its presence in the town, and the cultural heritage it left behind. This represents the first expert media insight into a topic that Mekomot Slovakia has long been dedicated to.

The Jewish Religious Community in Levoča and Its End
In the January issue, the author and chairman of the civic association Mekomot Slovakia, Hiro Richter, dedicated this article to the victims of the Shoah and to those who can no longer speak. The text acquaints the reader with the tragedy of the Jews of Levoča and the fact that the majority of them perished tragically during the Shoah.
